2005 Renault F1 Driver

The new 2005 qualifying system certainly made for an extraordinary weekend in Melbourne, with the weather dealing Giancarlo an ace card during Saturday’s session. The young Italian claimed provisional pole and Sunday saw him secure that top slot with an aggregate time of 3:01.460 seconds, some 3 seconds clear of his nearest rival. During the 57 lap race Giancarlo never put a foot wrong, coming home in 1st place to claim Renault’s first win of 2005.
